Supervision, consultation and training
Three ways I work with psychologists and organisations. They share one idea: you can't improve what you can't see.
I'm a clinical psychologist and Board-approved supervisor. I've supervised over 100 clinical registrars and many experienced psychologists, and in 2022 I received the Australian Psychological Society's Outstanding Accredited Supervisor Award.
When a complaint is made
My main focus now is supporting psychologists through a complaint or a notification to the Board. It's one of the most stressful things that can happen in a career, and most people go through it alone. I can help you:
- understand what the complaint actually alleges, and what the Board is likely to look at
- reflect honestly on the practice issues it raises, and put things right where they need fixing
- prepare a considered response, working alongside your lawyer or indemnity insurer
I'm not a lawyer, and this isn't legal advice. It's supervision, from someone who knows the Code and the process well.
Emergency supervision
If you need a supervisor quickly, for example because the Board requires supervision or your supervisor is suddenly unavailable, get in touch.
Ongoing supervision
- Registrar supervision on the clinical psychology endorsement pathway, mostly through PREP, which pairs supervision with structured training.
- Professional supervision for experienced psychologists who want to lift their outcomes, using their own client data and deliberate practice.
- Supervision of supervisors, and of practice owners working through clinical and ethical problems.

I work with health services that want to measure whether their care is working, and with practice owners who want to run a better practice.
For health services
I help mental health services build outcome measurement into everyday practice, so that clinicians use it to help clients rather than resenting it as bureaucracy. That has included hospital mental health teams, NGOs and headspace centres, and a training module on routine outcome measurement for headspace national's clinician induction.
Most failed implementations fail for the same reasons: indicators clinicians don't believe in, change imposed from the top, and data used for performance management before it's used to improve care. The fix is mostly culture, and it takes planning.
For practice owners
Rebecca and I built, ran and sold a group practice. We now advise owners on structure, governance, registrars, compliance and growth. Much of that work happens through PractAus.
Expert opinion
Expert opinion on professional and ethical standards in psychology is available on request, including for legal matters.
Training is the work I enjoy most. In 2024 I was named Educator of the Year at the Allied Health Awards.
What I train
- Supervision: Board-approved training for psychologists becoming supervisors, through STAP.
- Clinical psychology registrars: structured training on the path to endorsement, through PREP.
- Professional practice: ethics, governance, risk and the business of practice, through PractAus.
- Routine outcome measurement and deliberate practice: using client outcome data (including the DASS-10) to see what's working, and deliberate practice to get better at what isn't.
Keynotes and workshops
I also give keynotes and workshops for conferences, services and teams. Topics include feedback-informed practice, routine outcome measurement (including the DASS-10), supervision, and the Board's Code of conduct.
